NRS-14003 | Land tax assessment books

This series was created as a result of provisions in the Land and Income Tax Assessment Act of 1895. The volumes show ownership of land as compiled from the records of the Department of Taxation as at 31 December 1905. In most volumes there are supplementary sheets which are extracts from notices of sales and searches by the Department of changes in ownership effected during the years 1906 and 1907. Within the volumes, which are arranged by municipality or shire, the information is arranged by parish, ward and street and an alphabetical index to these is at the front of each volume. For each entry the following information is given: assessment number; return number; municipal rating number; name of street; details of owner (name, occupation, address); details of property (county, parish, section and lot number); name of estate; area; dimensions and unimproved value.
