ERIES-VORSEA dataset: Experimental investigation of the VORtex shedding of offshore wind turbine towers during SEA transit

The aerodynamics of finite-length circular cylinders, both isolated and arranged in clusters, is a challenging issue during the installation of offshore wind farms. Towers (without rotor-nacelle assembly) are erected at the harbor quayside and transported on the installation vessel (or barge). While vortex shedding on circular cylinders has been studied for decades, the interference between vortex shedding and the motion of the vessel, induced by waves and navigation, is still unexplored. This work aims to study the development of vortex shedding at high Reynolds number regime on finite-length circular cylinders and the effect of the rolling support, simulating a vessel-induced motion. Pressures at different heights of the cylinder are measured together with the acceleration of the top of the cylinder.
