The peculiarities of Elaphe dione and Elaphe bimaculata individuals are not limited to morphological and phenotypic differences, but concern the reproductive and ethological sphere, where many traits further diverge from the two reference species. To further investigate the issue, we decided to examine the identity of these suspected snakes, integrating the data collected during breeding and reproduction with phylogenetic analyses.
