We present a framework for developing shape error budgets for future large precision in-space assembled structures. Specifically, we target pin-jointed truss structures. We use as the key performance metric the surface root-mean-square error of the front surface of this pin-jointed truss. We apply this framework to an example 10-meter-diameter backing truss structure for the primary mirror of an optical space telescope.
