In-situ monitoring datasets documenting two post-fire geomorphic responses in Calabria, southern Italy

An in situ multi-sensor system has been installed in two sites of the Calabria region, southern Italy, to monitor post-fire geomorphic processes. Specifically, the installed sensors are aimed at detecting processes at source areas, and measuring a series of environmental variables controlling their initiation. The experimental technological setup successfully documented the evolution of environmental conditions during two intense rainfall events that triggered different types of instability processes. These were fully characterized in terms of predisposing and triggering conditions, as well as timely detected even during the night. The attached datasets were collected during these two events occurred on 19 October 2024 (Montebello Jonico study site) and 17 January 2025 (Roccaforte del Greco study site), respectively, and consist of: seismic data; rainfall data; lightning data; soil water content collected by a cosmic-ray neutron sensing (CRNS) probe; soil water content collected by time domain reflectometry (TDR) sensors; visible and thermal imagery.
