Utilization of Adverse Weather Data to Evaluate Crashes

Project Description This study explored how drivers adapt to inclement weather in terms of driving speed, situational awareness, and visibility as road surface conditions change from dry to slippery and visibility decreases. Data Request Scope Data requested included selected crash/near-crash events before adverse weather occurs, specifically at high speeds. In the beginning, 5 relevant events from two states were requested to determine if the datasets were useful to the driver behavior analysis. Subsequent sets of data were requested based on the analysis of the previously requested events. Data Specification Forward Video (clipped) Speed (GPS speed and CAN speed where available)
