Propagation phase contrast synchrotron X-ray micro-computed tomography acquisition dataset for the characterization of the skull of the sphenodontian Agriodontosaurus helsbypetrae BRSUG 29950-14 (University of Bristol, School of Earth Sciences, Geology Collections). The specimen is from the Helsby Sandstone Formation (locally, the Otter Sandstone) of Sidmouth, Devon, England. The acquisition was performed on the BM18 beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, Grenoble, France) with a measured pixel size of 6 µm. Fort the acquisition of this dataset, the beamline setup was: filtered white beam (Mo 3.75 mm); sample-detector distance of 6 m; indirect detector comprising a 2 mm thick Cerium doped Lutetium Aluminum Garnet scintillator (Lu3Al5O12:Ce); 0.642 x magnification from a photographic lens, a sCMOS IRIS-15 camera (Teledyne Photometrics, Tucson, AZ, USA). This setup resulted in a total integrated detected energy of 164 keV, a measured pixel size of 6.0 µm, and a field of view of 5056 x 1744 (H x V) pixels (i.e., 30.34 x 10.46 mm). To compensate for the limited field of view, 17 acquisitions in planar circular modality with 360° rotation were performed, moving the specimen by 5 mm on the vertical axis after each turn, resulting in a ca. 50% vertical overlap; the centre of rotation was shifted by 13.2 mm (corresponding to 2200 pixels on the detector), resulting in reconstructed tomogram of 9456 x 9456 pixels (i.e. 56.74 x 56.74 mm). Each acquisition consisted of 13,000 projections, each resulting from the accumulation of five frames with an exposure time of 25 msec (125 msec total integration time per projection). Additionally, before each acquisition, 50 dark current images (image without beam) and 51 flatfield images (image with beam and no sample) were recorded
