Airfoil Performance Data for Small-Scale Vertical Axis Wind Turbines: CP vs TSR at Urban Low Wind Speeds

This dataset provides the aerodynamic performance data for six airfoils used in small-scale vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) operating under low wind speed conditions (2–8 m/s), typical of urban environments. The data is generated using the Double Multiple Streamtube (DMST) and Lifting Line Free Vortex Wake (LLFVW) models in QBlade, focusing on power coefficient (CP) vs tip-speed ratio (TSR) plots. Key features of the dataset include: CP vs TSR values across a wide range of tip-speed ratios, particularly focusing on startup torque and power production. Data derived from both the DMST (stationary) and LLFVW (transient) aerodynamic models. Analysis of airfoil performance for low wind speeds, reflecting real-world urban wind conditions. Comparison of Low-Reynolds-number and VAWT-specific airfoils (S1210, E387, DU06W200) with symmetric NACA airfoils (NACA 0015, NACA 0018) in terms of self-starting behavior and power efficiency.
