Dataset on pig social behaviours performed when in proximity

The study examined whether physical proximity extracted from locations recorded by an AI system can be used to detect whether two pigs are engaged in aggressive or ear biting interactions. Pigs were examined at two ages (grower phase and finisher phase) ('younger' and 'older' in the dataset). Data were collected using an automated recording system that captured 2D camera images and videos on a farm in the USA.Video footage of two pens of 19 pigs were observed and mutual fighting and ear biting bouts were manually identified. Proximity matrices were calculated for each pen using shoulder XY location, for the duration of the bout, lasting 2-42s (median 5.0s). The proximity threshold used was 0.5m.
