The cultivation of the red alga Neopyropia yezoensis (nori) is one of the most important aquaculture industries in East Asia. The discoloration caused by nutrient deficiencies is a serious damage to the industry, as it significantly affects the quality of the harvest as well as the amount of production. In this project, we designed three culture experiments, 1: nutrient limitation, 2: nitrogen (N) addition, and 3: comparison of two strains (U51 and Futamata), and investigated the genes affected by changes in nutrient levels in N. yezoensis using RNA-Seq analysis.
