Wildlife Resource Priorities in the Highlands Region

Clipped from USFWS Northeast Region Areas of Agreement Map, version 2. Composed of 4 conservation designs: Nature's Network, NatureServe's Map of Biodiversity Importance, Esri's Green Infrastructure, The Nature Conservancy's Resilient and Connected Networks. Each layer is coded as a 1, so the number of layers is indicative of how many layers overlap in a given area. The concept is that if multiple analyses indicate an area is important for conservation, then it is likely to have a higher importance than other areas. This approach offers a couple of advantages: it is not necessary to "choose" a single conservation design over others, and it narrows down where the most important areas may be for conservation much further than most other designs, which often identify up to 50% of the landscape as important. Future updates will include a new version of Esri Green Infrastructure and and updated version of the Imperiled Species Cores part of Nature's Network.
