In fiscal year 2023, the food self-sufficiency ratio on calorie supply basis in Japan was estimated to be around 38 percent. Figures were expected to remain the same as the previous fiscal year. The food self-sufficiency ratio indicates the share of food consumed in Japan that is covered by domestic production.
