Clarias magur is a freshwater air breathing catfish previously known as Clarias batrachus. It is fairly distributed in the Ganga and Brahmaputra river basins in northern and northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. This species can survive out of water for considerable time because of its special accessory organ for respiration. It has high market value due to high protein (15.0%), iron content (0.71%), and also rich in minerals and low in fat (1.0%).
