XMM CONFIRMATION OF A HIGH REDSHIFT SUNYAEV-ZEL.DOVICH CLUSTER CANDIDATE

We propose to use XMM to confirm the identification of a distant clustercandidate that was selected from the ACBAR SunyaevZel.dovich (SZ) Blind ClusterSurvey. This candidate shows a strong SZ decrement, at a level consistent with a1.1e15 solar mass cluster, in a deep ACBAR observation. Deep r and i bandimaging has uncovered an obvious over density of faint galaxies that was notvisible on the UKST survey plates. If confirmed in the Xray band, this will bethe first cluster to have been discovered via its SZ signal alone (rather thanvia its optical, radio or Xray signatures).
