Youth in Transition, 1970 Cohort

The Youth in Transition (YIT) project is a longitudinal study of four nationally representative cohorts of young people. This is the cohort of respondents born in 1970. Variables encompass three primary areas: a: post-secondary education/training including study area, institution attended, qualification received and reasons for continuing study; b: employment history including number of full-time and part-time jobs held since leaving school, type of job, weekly income and hours worked, and c: unemployment including length of time unemployed, reasons for unemployment and problems faced obtaining a job. Other variables include self-concept of ability, general feelings about life, financial matters and division of labour both at home and at work. Background variables include age, sex, country of birth, ethnic identity, language spoken at home, family size, living arrangements, marital status, number of children and some demographic information (e.g country of birth, level of education) for the respondents parents.
