The dataset Wind Demonstrator Fatigue Testing report fatigue testing of a ply drop tesile fatigue test relevant for the Wind Energy sector.
Each specimen consisted of carbon pultruded plates (3 mm, Zoltek) and biaxial ±45° glass fabric (833 g/m², Owens Corning) embedded in a Swancor epoxy matrix. Eleven specimens underwent tension–tension fatigue loading (load ratio R = 0.1, frequency = 3 Hz) at different load levels using an MTS 250 kN hydraulic machine.
The specimen had two distinct ply drops acting as initiation site. Once initiaed cracks propagated as delaminations in the resin rich area between the carbon planks.
Digital Image Correlation (DIC) was employed to monitor delamination initiation and propagation, with images captured periodically from the front and side of the specimens. The dataset includes the load displacement value acquired from the load cell during fatigue.
