The phaseout of PFAS-laden aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF) over the past two decades has spurred a gradual shift toward fluorine-free alternatives (F3). This study used an integrated approach to provide a more exhaustive evaluation of F3 biodegradation with a comprehensive microbial community profiling using 16S rRNA sequencing.
