Unlike males, female Aedes albopictus mosquitoes can transmit health endangering arboviruses like Dengue, Zika and chikungunya viruses. Identifying differences in the levels of coding (gene transcripts) and unusual non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) between male and female mosquitoes could help us to better understand the sex differentiation processes used by them and this information could prove vital in the search for effective arbovirus control strategies.
