The Impact of Modifiable Dementia Risk Factors on Cognition and Alzheimer's Dementia

A range of modifiable dementia risk factors (MDRF) have been identified by observational studies leading to the development of dementia risk reduction/prevention strategies. However, many studies have not considered that MDRFs may not be equally modifiable, or that they likely co-occur. By addressing these limitations in investigations of the relationship between MDRFs with cognition and biological markers of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and neurodegeneration in middle-aged and older adults, this PhD thesis aimed to develop a more comprehensive understanding of modifiable dementia risk to better inform brain-behaviour models of AD dementia and dementia risk reduction and prevention strategies.
