A new electrochemical cell has been developed by the Charles University (Prague) and will be tested at LISA. XAS spectra will be recorded on operating water electrolyzers. Measurements will be performed in the transmission mode for Ir L3 edge for both XANES and EXAFS region. Important to note that cathode catalyst of water electrolyzer will be of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles instead of more widely used (and active) platinum (Pt). Such choice is convenient for both good adsorption edges separation from studied elements and reasonably high electrochemical activity. NR-212 membrane will be used along with Ti PTL and carbon based GDL.
Operando cell will be heated to 70 oC with built-in heating system and external PID controller. Deionized water will be continuously recirculated using peristaltic pump. Cathode compartment of the cell will be continuously flushed with N2 gas to prevent droplet formation which will affect the signal acquisition
