Altered gut microbiome composition by appendectomy contributes to colorectal cancer

Appendectomy impacts the homeostasis of gut microbiome in patients. We aimed to study the role of appendectomy in colorectal cancer (CRC) risk through causing gut microbial dysbiosis. We confirmed that appendectomy promoted colorectal tumorigenesis in mice by causing gut microbial dysbiosis and impaired intestinal barrier function. And we further detected the difference of gene expression in tumor tissue of post-appendectomy mice (n=3) compared to the control mice (n=3) by RNA sequencing.
