Handwriting2/Examples Spring 2007

This study compares the standard Cognitive Tutor interface with a handwriting-based interface that uses worked examples to mitigate against the lack of step-by-step feedback. The four conditions within the study are: (1) control; (2) control+worked examples; (3) control+worked examples with step-by-step feedback turned off; and (4) handwriting with worked examples and no step-by-step feedback. Students were assigned to condition within classroom -- one classroom in each of 2 schools was assigned to each condition. Furthermore, although teachers may have had more than one classroom participate, no teacher had the same condition twice. Students worked in Unit ES_05; linear equations with 3 steps.

Note that there is some oddity in encoding the skillrules between conditions, due to not being able to check students step by step. It is not clear if the learning curves work on this dataset properly.
