Cultural tourism research has grown fast in areas such as how people consume culture why they travel for culture keeping heritage safe the money side of cultural tourism, anthropology and how it ties to the creative economy. Major trends in research are moving from heritage to cultural experiences paying more attention to indigenous and other minority groups and spreading research to new regions. The paper ends with suggestions for research, such as building transmodern cultures and studying the effects of new technologies.
