Blood Pressure Alterations in CML Patients Treated with Imatinib vs. Nilotinib : A Clinical Insight

This study involved a retrospective cohort of 148 adult patients diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital and its affiliated hospitals. The data used for analysis were extracted from electronic medical records between December 2025 and January 2026. All patients included in the study were receiving either imatinib or nilotinib therapy for at least 12 months.The dataset consists of the following key variables:Demographic Data: Age, gender, and smoking status.CML Treatment History: Type of Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor (TKI) used (Imatinib or Nilotinib), and the duration of TKI therapy.Comorbidities: Presence of diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and obesity.Blood Pressure Measurements: Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) values were recorded at baseline (before therapy) and at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of follow-up.The data were analyzed to assess the changes in blood pressure over the 12-month period of treatment with either imatinib or nilotinib. Blood pressure measurements were taken by trained healthcare personnel using a validated automated oscillometric sphygmomanometer (Omron HEM-7130, Omron Healthcare Co., Ltd., Kyoto, Japan) following the American Heart Association guidelines. The final blood pressure value was determined as the average of at least two measurements recorded during each visit.
