Announcement: Towards the 2nd Data Release of Project Severe Weather Archive of the Philippines (SWAP DR2)

As you may have known, I started Project SWAP a month ago to essentially archive and digitalize the severe weather events focused on Tornadoes, Hails, and Waterspouts with its underlying information within the Philippine Archipelago from 2010 to Present, may extend prior to 2010. Over the past month, I managed to uncover more severe weather events from various sources i.e. on government agencies, news reports/records, social media platforms, eyewitness accounts, including their respective photographic and videographic evidences. Hence, I am glad, as the Project Leader, to announce the 2nd Data Release of Severe Weather Archive of the Philippines (or SWAP DR2) for the users of this archived data. In the additional description of SWAP v1.4 (or DR1.4 as I call it), Project SWAP DR2 will feature multiple key improvements; Geographic decimal coordinates (i.e. latitude, longitude pairs) will be revised/improved to 5 decimals for accuracy purposes, Significant uptick to the number of severe weather events reviewed/checked, hopefully doubling the amount from the initial release and extending prior to year 2000, Improvements to the documentation, particularly to the source files in PDF will have 'status indicators' whether the links are still online/active upon publication/release of SWAP DR2, An article/pre-print/white paper of this project soon to be available in arXiv with the availability of SWAP DR2. The paper will also unveil the official project logo (finally), data descriptions, and data analysis regarding the tornado climatology of the Philippines. Thus, will be the foundational paper of the project and is my finally paper as a graduating student with a degree in astronomy major in meteorology. I'm not planning to publish it on some other journal, not unless given a sufficient funding to do such, and SWAP DR2 will also feature proximity rawinsonde observations (RAOBs or proximity sounding profiles) from few cases as queried and analyzed through SounderPy of Gillett (2024). This is added on a zip file for this archive. This project can be important to uncovering the Philippine's convective and wind profile setting on various timescales, essentially creating a climatological baseline to further understand both mesoscale processes and long term climate linkages. SWAP DR2 is projected to be available hopefully around August 2024 or September 2024. I'm currently scouring thoroughly on newspapers from various new media outlets to add. Lastly, kindly see the attached table I created in this announcement for the versions of Project SWAP and other details.
