OXA-48-producing animal and human Enterobacter hormaechei

E. hormaechei producing the carbapenemase OXA-48 was repeatedly identified in infections of companion animals hospitalized at a Swiss veterinary clinic, where an outbreak with OXA-48-producing K. pneumoniae occurred in the previous months. The present study aims to characterize the animal isolates together with human E. hormaechei strains collected in Switzerland in order to determine the genetic relatedness, and to assess the possible acquisition of mobile genetic elements from other E.hormaechei or K. pneumoniae.
