Ultra-high resolution 7Tesla functional MRI data (0.8 mm isotropic) was acquired in 30 young, healthy adults. During data acquisition, participants performed the encoding and retrieval phase of a memory task. Participants learned events, consisting of a popular person, an object (or animal) and a location in a pairwise associative manner. At retrieval, in a 4-alternative forced choice recognition task, one event element served as a cue while a belonging target element was presented among familiar lures of the same element type (e.g. location). Each event was cued from all directions. A closed loop structure (AB-BC-BA) versus an open loop structure (AB-BC-CD) was employed by half of the events, respectively, at encoding. Functional data captured a slice, oriented along the longitudinal axis of the hippocampus and covered the medial temporal lobe, superior occipital cortices and parietal regions. Structural T2-weighted (slice) and T1-weighted data (whole-brain) was acquired. Data can be reused to answer questions about the functional involvement of medial temporal lobe subregions, structure-behavior relationships, questions about memory formation and retrieval.
