TheResearchPlanprovidesguidanceintermsofresearchfocus.Theidentifiedresearchquestionsthereforearebynomeansexhaustive.Furthermore,whilstthisresearchplanfocusesontheresearchnecessaryfortheadvancementofsomeofthenationalgoals,researchaimedatknowledgegenerationwouldalsobehighlyencouraged.Assuch,thefocusofnanoscienceandnanotechnologyresearchwillnotbeexclusivelyconfinedtoresearchidentifiedherein.Furthermore,theDSTwillputinplacemechanismsfordetermininghealth,safety,environmentalandriskissuesassociatedwithnanotechnologyresearchandapplicationusinginternationally-acceptedbestpractice3.Thiseffortwillbeaimedatensuringthatnanotechnologyresearch,includingthatprescribedinthisdocument,isdoneinaccordancewithinternationalbestpractice.
