GreenCalculus — UK Domestic Energy Benchmarks by Dwelling Type, EPC Band & Floor Area (NEED)

45 mean metered annual gas and electricity benchmarks for homes in Great Britain,from the National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework (NEED) — 20 by dwelling type,14 by EPC band A–G, 10 by floor-area band, plus the 97 m2 mean dwelling floorarea used to scale the per-dwelling figures. These are measured meter readings matched to property records and weather-corrected, not modelled ratings. That distinction is the point of the dataset,and the data shows why it matters: EPC band does not rank consumption the waythe rating implies. Band A dwellings average 12,754 kWh a year, MORE than band B(11,091) and band C (12,395), and band G averages less than band F. An EPC is amodelled efficiency rating per square metre; NEED is measured total consumptionper dwelling. A large, well-insulated house can consume more in absolute termsthan a small, poorly-insulated flat. These are the reference benchmarks behind PCAF mortgages Option 2a — energyestimated from official energy label and floor area — which scores 3 on the PCAFdata quality scale.
