AI empowerment and new quality productivity

Based on the data of A-share listed companiesfrom 2011 to 2023, this paper takes green total factor productivity as the micro proxy variable of new quality productivity, and constructs the index of artificial intelligence application at the enterprise level through text analysis. It is found that the application of artificial intelligence significantly improves the green total factor productivity of enterprises, which is realized through three paths: green technology innovation, factor allocation optimization and reduction of institutional transaction costs, and has a stronger effect on state-owned enterprises, eastern, labor-intensive and highly polluting enterprises. The ‘Digital China’ and ‘Double Carbon’ policies can form a positive synergistic effect with artificial intelligence and amplify the green empowerment effect. The research provides policy reference for the integration of digital economy and green development.
