The food waste used in this study was sourced from a waste transfer station. The actual composting material consists of a mixture of crushed and dehydrated food waste and mature compost in a wet to weight ratio of 9:1. The entire composting process was carried out using a newly-developed self-circulating pulse alternating ventilation composting pilot device (SC-PAVCR). Samples collected on days 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 were used for microbiological analysis.
