An injection well and its neighboring production wells with or without bottom water influence in a water-flooded petroleum reservoir located in Xinjiang, China, were surveyed to characterize the structure and diversity of their microbial communities. Pyrosequencing was used in combination with multivariate statistics to identify the relationships shared between sequence diversity and heterogeneity.
