"Quartieri, le barrio / quartieri, les banlieues": francesismi e ispanismi nella nuova trap italiana

In recent years, the Italian rap scene has undergone a significant transformation, propelled by the rise of trap music. This evolution has affected not only technical and stylistic aspects but also linguistic practices. Contemporary Italian trap stands out for its multilingual nature, blending Italian with English, Arabic, French, and Spanish. Its lyrics frequently feature extensive code-switching and the borrowing of foreign lexicon. This paper analyzes French and Spanish loanwords in the works of three influential artists – Baby Gang, Rhove, and Simba La Rue – who employ a glocal vocabulary that reflects both local identities and global cultural flows.
