We hypothesized that microorganisms may enhance metal uptake by modulating the expression patterns of plant metal transporters. To test this, we compared the root transriptomes (RNA-seq) of in vitro- cultured Odontarrhena chalcidica and Arabidpsis arenosa, either inoculated with a serpentine-soil microbial extract or left uninoculated.
