This dataset correspond to field data assessing the daily activity pattern of a coleopteran species (Chelotrupes momus), and evaluating the relationship between its external body temperatures and the air and ground temperatures when the species is active. Laboratory data based on thermal camera measurements were also included. Specifically, external body temperatures were recorded under constant air (4-5ºC) and sand temperatures (approximately 10ºC), as well as when the specimens were subjected to a progressive decrease in air temperature from 15 ºC to -14 ºC. Finally, the dataset includes the percentage of photons reflected, transmitted, or absorbed by the elytra for ultraviolet (200-375 nm), visible (380-750 nm), and near-infrared (755-1600 nm) radiation in ten specimens of the species. All these data were analysed in a previously published study (Journal of Insect Physiology 153, 104602).
