THE IMPORTANCE OF IDENTIFYING STUDENTS' CHARACTERISTICS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING: SELECTING APPROPRIATE MOTIVATIONAL STRATEGIES

In modern foreign language education, learner-centered instruction has become a fundamental principle for achieving effective learning outcomes. One of the key factors influencing students’ success in foreign language acquisition is the accurate identification of learners’ individual characteristics, including cognitive styles, learning preferences, proficiency levels, and motivational orientations. This article examines the importance of analyzing students’ characteristics in foreign language teaching and highlights how such analysis enables educators to select appropriate motivational strategies. Grounded in motivational theory, learner differences research, and communicative language teaching, the study employs a qualitative-descriptive methodology incorporating theoretical analysis and classroom-based observation. The findings suggest that instruction tailored to students’ characteristics significantly enhances motivation, engagement, and language achievement. The study concludes that systematic learner analysis is essential for designing effective motivational methods and fostering sustainable foreign language learning.
