Magnetic Excitations and Kitaev Interactions in the Newly Synthesized 2D Ru-based Quantum Spin Liquid Candidate

Na2Co2RuO6 (NCRO) is a newly synthesized compound that crystallizes in the hexagonal P6322 structure and emerges as a promising candidate for Kitaev-type quantum spin liquid (QSL) behavior. Despite strong antiferromagnetic interactions, as evidenced by a large negative Curie-Weiss temperature θp = -126 K, NCRO exhibits no signatures of long-range magnetic ordering down to 250 mK indicative of strong magnetic frustration and potential quantum spin liquid ground state. To probe this exotic magnetic state, we have performed detailed bulk magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements at ultra-low temperatures. However, to unambiguously confirm the presence of fractionalized excitations and the role of bond directional Kitaev interactions inelastic neutron scattering (INS) investigations are essential. These studies will provide critical insights into the dynamic spin correlations and help establish NCRO as a bonafide Kitaev QSL system.
