Lonicera macranthoides (L. macranthoides) and Lonicera japonica (L. japonica), belonging to the Lonicera genus and the Caprifoliaceae family, are two widely used herbs in treating influenza and coronavirus. L. macranthoides contains extremely high-abundant hederagenin-based saponins. What contributes to biosynthesis of these saponins remains completely unknown. To identify the key genes involved in this process. Transcriptomics analysis was performed.
