Verified Company Counts by City and Trade

How many home service companies pass license verification in each US city and trade, checked against the state register that issues the credential for that trade. 15,099 rows covering 384,462 verified company records across 3,106 cities, 10 states, 28 trades and 18 registers, as of 11 September 2026. Nobody publishes counts of licensed companies per city: state registers publish licenses rather than geography, and trade associations publish membership rather than licensure. This dataset is the join, with the register named on every row so any figure can be checked at its source. A company counts when it holds a current credential in the named register on the verification date. A city and trade is published only where at least three companies pass, so combinations below that bar are absent from the file rather than present as zero. A missing row does not mean zero. What it does not say. It is a floor on the licensed population rather than a census of it, because matching a credential to a company is imperfect. It says nothing about how many jobs a company takes or how good its work is. Counts change when a register is re-ingested, so two versions are two snapshots and the difference between them is not a trend. Two structural caveats. Florida rows are county-lens: Florida publishes one principal city per county and folds the rest into it, so a Florida count covers the county while the city column names the principal city, and per-capita work there must use county population. Texas roofing is not a state license: Texas licenses no roofers, so those rows are checked against a voluntary trade association and are not comparable with Florida roofing, which is a state license. The register column distinguishes them on every row. The monthly_searches column is a third-party keyword-tool estimate carried for the site's own sorting. It is included for transparency and should not be used for research: the site's own measurement found that pages the tool marked zero-demand produced about twice the search impressions of the pages it marked in-demand.
