Shiga toxin (Stx)-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are important foodborne enteric pathogens. Domestic and wild ruminants are important STEC reservoirs. Virulence factors produced by STEC strains include the cytotoxin subtilase (SubAB). Strain 48, an STEC isolated from a deer, harbours a subAB2-2 gene variant located in a chromosomal location that differs from the OEP-locus described in E. coli O76:H- strain. To understand this new chromosomal location of the subAB variants, the OEP-region surrounding subAB2-2 in this strain was determined. Obtained from a ecal sample from a deer.
