This is the supplementary data to the article "Villavicencio et al. (2024) Facilitation in mangrove ecosystem: The role of herbaceous species in seedling recruitment and growth patterns of Avicennia germinans in a recovering mangrove in Northeastern Brazil", published in Acta Botanica Brasilica, v. 38: e20220283. https://doi.org/10.1590/1677-941X-ABB-2022-0283.In this study we established five plots with 4 m2 each (2 x 2 m each plot) in a patch of the herbaceous plant Batis maritima, five plots with 4 m2 each (2 x 2 m each plot) in a patch of the herbaceous plant Sesuvium portulacastrum, and five plots with 4 m2 each (2 x 2 m each plot) in an area without herbaceous plants. We then monitored the plots from 2017 to 2019 to evaluate the role of the herbaceous plants in increasing the recruitment of seedlings of the mangrove tree Avicennia germinans. We measured abiotic factors inside the plots and the density of seedlings in each plot along our study. The raw data upon which we made our analyses are available in the supplementary spreadsheet stored here.Densities and growth rate of Avicennia germinans in the presence of Batis maritima, Sesuvium portulacastrum, and in the absence of any other plant species between 2017 and 2019 in a disturbed area was recorded and salinity, temperature, organic matter and humidity data for each plot are included.For further details, please, consult our full article.
