Number of waste items found along coastlines in Europe 2023, by country

During the International Coastal Cleanup day in 2023, thousands of people across Europe volunteered to collect waste from coastlines. Volunteers around Spain collected more than 206,000 waste items, including cigarette butts, plastic bottles, and bottle caps. This was the largest number recorded among European countries that year. Volunteers in Germany found the second largest number of waste items, at over 130,000.
