Combined cycle power plants accounted for the largest installed capacity in Mexico in 2021, with almost 34 gigawatts. This type of plant uses gas and steam turbines to generate electricity. In 2022, the Program for the Development of the National Electric System of the country planned to increase the capacity of combined cycle plants by 43 percent by 2036.
