The B. subtilis A1.2 strain is characterized by a pronounced antimicrobial activity; in experiments, it inhibited the growth of bacterial test cultures and reduced the growth rate of the mold Aspergillus unguis BKM F-1754 by 70% relative to the control. In the genome of B. subtilis strain A1.2, gene clusters were found for the production of a number of secondary metabolites: bacillin, subtilisin, bacilisin, surfactin, bacilliactin, fengycin, sactipeptide, and ratipeptide (spore death factor) with potential antimicrobial activity.
