Spatially explicit quantification of water production services is of great significance for water resources management and optimal allocation in China. The authors took the National Ecological Barrier Zone as the study area. Based on the Daily Dataset of China's Surface Climate Data (V3.0), land use data, NDVI data and other related datasets, they adopted the water production module of the InVEST model, using 1-km grids as the basic calculation unit to estimate the water production service volume, and developed the annual 1-km grid dataset of water production service volume in the National Ecological Barrier Zone (2000–2015). The projection coordinate system of this dataset is WGS_1984_Albers, with the unit of millimeter (mm). The data is stored in .tiff format, consisting of 16 individual files with a total size of 1 GB (compressed into a single file with a size of 169 MB).
