Plants could sense and respond very rapidly to a change in nutrient availability. At a developmental level, phosphate deficiency leads to a rapid repression of the primary root growth. This response is alleviated when iron is also absent from the medium. We used microarrays to detail the global programme of gene expression during phosphate and/or iron deficiency and to identify gene regulatory network involved in the control of the primary root growth in response to phosphate deficiency. Col-0 wild-type plants were grown in full nutrient medium including Pi at 1mM for 10 days (Control). One part of the plants was transferred to a nutrient medium not containing Pi (0Pi) for 3, 6 and 9 h. One part of the plants was transferred to a nutrient medium not containing Fe (0Fe) for 3, 6 and 9 h and one part was tranferred to a nutrient medium not containing Pi (0Pi) and Fe (0Fe) for 3, 6 and 9 h.
