Samples from 2000 and 2001 excavations at the Backhoe Village, site 42SV662, in central
Utah were examined for pollen, phytoliths, and/or macrofloral remains. Individual charcoal samples
were identified prior to submission for radiocarbon analysis. This site is a Fremont habitation site
with radiocarbon dates suggesting early to late Fremont associations. The Fremont are believed
to have diverted water from local springs for farming. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used
to provide information concerning plant resources available to and utilized by the Fremont
occupants of this site.
