Detailed spectroscopic properties of Nd:GSAG (Gd3Sc2Al3O12) were demonstrated and discrete multi-wavelength tuning lasers were constructed using a birefringence filter for the first time to our knowledge. Because of the disordered crystal field, Stark levels are widened, and the emission cross sections are restrained to different degrees, bringing about a mitigating amplified spontaneous emission and providing optimal conditions for discrete multi-wavelength lasers output. Therefore, Nd:GSAG has the potential to emerge as a laser possessing multiple wavelengths for application as a fundamental laser source.
