Things that effect tree growth

Group Members: Brittney Jorisch, Joelle Brooker, Karin Yosefi, Kamil Adamczewski. The purpose of this lab was to see how sunlight and crowdiness effected the growth of maple trees, using DBH as measure of health and age. Only maple trees taller then 180 centimemteres were used in the experiment. A group of four split up into two, each with two transacts, 3 meteres each, were set up around a choosen tree to make the outline of a box, and the other two sides of the box were imagined. The number of plants and trees inside the box around the choosen tree were counted as crowdiness. Then using our fingers we made a box, and used it as our quadrant to estimate the canopy coverage over the selected tree, which was estimated on a range between 0-100. Then diameter breast height was calculated using a transact, to measure the width of the tree, this also gave an estimation of the age and health of the tree. Sample size is 50, the data was collected over the course of two days, October 15, and 22, 2015 in York University, Danby Woodlot.
