Deciphering Cell-Type-Specific Gene Expression Signatures of Paediatric Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is the most common cause of heart failure in children. Once heart failure is established, it becomes difficult for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body. Current treatments mainly focus on symptom management and don't address the root cause. Ultimately, patients require mechanical assistance or heart transplantation, but donor availability is limited. This thesis aims to create and analyse a model of DCM using patient-derived stem cells to understand its underlying mechanisms. It will ultimately pave the way to developing much-needed precision treatments for DCM patients.
